summoning the naga

Each year at the end of the rainy season in Laos, the citizens of Luang Prabang gather to call the city's guardian naga back to the rivers from the flooded rice paddies. There are boat races and carnival games and all manner of noisemakers. Everyone from monks to soldiers is in attendance. I like a place that keeps its dragons close.

Dedicated to my momma, who waited 30 years to visit the Hmong homeland.
